Service Projects

Texas Tech ASCE has participated in several service activities.  In April, the Tech chapter participated in Arbor Day festivities by planting honeysuckle and daylilies in the plaza area next to the Chi Epsilon Transit by the CE building.  ASCE members have also participated in Habitat for Humanity construction days.  In November, members attended the Tech vs. Colorado football game with a group of elementary aged kids, for "Take a Kid to the Game."

Another ongoing service activity performed by Texas Tech students is the Future Engineers project that allowed Dunbar Middle School kids compete in our sponsored competition. Each week several Tech Civil Engineering students visited with the Dunbar students for a class period to discuss engineering.  Some of the junior high students were using Sim City 3000 to design a city to model for the Future Engineers contest.  Other students are utilizing and familiarizing themselves with K'NEX by constructing an original roller coaster.  They have modeled the roller coaster in the Roller Coaster Tycoon software package.

It is clear that Texas Tech Civil Engineer students are not only dedicated to their schooling, but also to impacting the community. There are plenty of places for involvement, so ask any ASCE Officer how you can make a difference today
